I was born long ago in a small, isolated colony hidden away from civilization carved into the side of a great mountain, Crimsonia. As a child, I grew up in a family of three consisting of my mother, Aeycha, a skilled craftswoman and my father, Saliman, a brilliant redstone scientist. Our town was originally established many decades before my birth by a group of people who separated themselves from society in their quest to form a scientific utopia where all manner of research might be conducted and people would live in harmony; I will always treasure the stories of Great Migration of Aegieras told by the village seer, Sciena, during my childhood. Often on weekends I recall, a group of my friends and I used to sit on the steps of his home from very early in the morning, eagerly awaiting his presence so that we might join him on his morning walk and listen to stories of our ancestors. Personally, I was always partial and felt most connected to founding mythos; about how on one fateful day, the great Sacren Rouge, after whom I am named, led a group of his followers to salvation away from the corruption of society. For many hundreds of miles they walked steadily, never looking back, until, at last they had secluded themselves sufficiently and settled amongst the cliffs in a group of mountains. It was at this site where my people thrived for years in their pursuit of knowledge, free from the implicating constraints of traditional civilization.
Throughout my early years, Saliman strove to rear me in an environment conducive to knowledge and discovery. At a mere 6 years of age, I began initial schooling, and it was not long before my mental prowess really manifested itself and I flew through advanced education with ease. Impressed by this incredible feat of intellectual competence, he trained me as his private pupil in the ways of scientific study and it was not long before I could assist him with his research and inevitable went on to perform my own. Alas, I grew quite fond of this lifestyle yet, on many occasions, I couldn’t help but think that the Immortals had a larger plan in store for me: an existence with profound meaning. These events happened to take place right around the same time as the founding of the Crimson Brotherhood. In the town where I lived, mention of the Brotherhood seemed to be almost forbidden, and while words were still spoken, it was always in hushed tone under the cover of darkness. I had frequently wondered why this was, so I approached Sciena for answers but to no avail. It seemed that I would just have to discover for myself what the Brotherhood was all about. And so on that day, I came to a decision that would ultimately change my life forever…
Early one fall morning many weeks later, I set out from my home town towards the horizon in the direction I was told the beginnings of a massive obsidian tower stood. For many days I continued along that path until, finally out of exhaustion, I could go no further. Here, sprawled out in the dirt, I made a desperate plea to the Immortals above that the path that I knew had been destined for me would appear and guide me to my Fate. As I knelt down facing the great Crimson obelisk, obscured on the skyline, I spoke quietly to myself, “Oh almighty ones, I fear that I have lost sight of the path laid out before me, never to return. I wish to know the true purpose of my being on this plane and what plan Fate has in store for me. Please, I entreat you, do not abandon me now for I have devoted my life to you and ask for only this in return…” At that moment, the ground opened up beneath me and darkness consumed me whole.
Deep down into the center of the world I fell, tossing and tumbling all the way. Until, at last, the suffocating darkness was pierced by a ray of faint red light that grew in intensity as I neared it. Bathed in its warm, comforting luminance I was miraculously enlightened with the knowledge of the Universe; and as the bottom of the pit rose up quickly to meet with me, my mind filled with thoughts of the unthinkable: full of concepts never meant for mortal comprehension. And, almost by instinct, I uttered a few unspoken words to attest my spiraling downfall-- a moment later I gently contacted the ground. As I looked up in awe, I witnessed before me the splendor of a great fountain surging with crimson red fluid: a beautiful and massive structure many hundreds of feet high whose tiny rivulets of precious liquid seemed to embody a life of their own. Slowly I neared the sacred monument, the stillness surrounding me me was broken by the sounds of a thousand forbidden whispers; they seemed to ebb and flow with the current of the fountain just as the ocean’s tide rises then recedes into oblivion. At once, an overwhelming numbness overcame my corporeal being, leaving only my consciousness untouched as it flew up like a whisp of smoke.
For a time I felt nothing, then an impossible force drawing me towards the source of the voices. It was not long before I discovered that the more resistance I offered, the stronger its grasp became me inwards. Just as my body hovered over the great sea of red, I thought, “This is it… the end of me.” But there remained something else-- some inexplicable thing that I have yet to understand fully. As of a deus ex machina, I delved deep inside my pooling cognizance with a dying effort and offered up somehow a single, infinitely powerful thought to what, I did not know. There was a blinding flash of light as my mind reunited with my body now entombed within a stone prison, well beyond the reaches of the Sun. Just before I lost consciousness, there was an odd sensation, a tingling all over my body, and the super-mortal knowledge I had once held became nothing but an empty void… then, nothing. Time passed for me as if it were not there at all, as if my life were suddenly terminated--
Shouting: that is all I recall from the day my prison was breached and exposed to the sunlight for the first time in how long, I don’t even remember. My mind rushed back into the lifeless body stretched out a stone slab, preserved but defiled by the Crimson essence that now flooded through my veins? After I was brought to the medical center of a nearby village, I was told that there was a certain individual inhabiting the very same place who wished to speak to me. Who could this man be I thought to myself? As it turned out, it was none other than the Sciena, but something seemed different about him. What was it? I knew that it was something obvious but I couldn't quite seem to put my finger on it. At last, I realized what had changed: he appeared to be much older, almost as if he had aged years since the last time I saw him. I drew back in horror as he approached my bedside. Hesitant at first, he explained to me that the city where I was born had been wiped out and that he was the last survivor of a great fire that broke out and left it in ruins. But still, how could it be that he seemed so much older than before? And that was when I was told the date: apparently I had been locked away in my own personal hell for over a decade! I could hardly believe what I was being told: my mind wandered off in denial, until reality struck back: the old man before me had just collapsed into my arms and sucked down air as if he were drowning in water, gasping and shallow. He drew a final breath and spoke almost inaudibly in my ear: "There is something you need to know..." he whispered and without finishing his body grew limp as the life was extinguished. Crying, I shouted out for help but, alas, there was no one to hear me. And so I sat, pooling in my own tears as I officially became the last of my kin, the only person to carry on their legacy.
Even to this day, I am still searching for the truth about what happened since my disappearance so long ago, and now began a new chapter of my life… To be continued.
