He means, what IS the avatar. Not like what file is it.

Whatever it is, it slows down my computer.

It IS a high-framerate animated GIF. And it is compressed from something like 600x600 pixels... that's actually a pretty big GIF.

It always freezes for me for a second at one point. IDK if that's the loop or my computer.

If it moves a bit, then pauses and starts again, that's because the image processing is canceled when it has to initially render another image.

It's also very grainy.

I think it's intentionally grainy.

I like it. It's like some sort of mind-blowing crystal. It's 3D, and then it isn't. It's rotating on an imaginary axis.
Of course it's actually just the same thing copied and pasted and rotating from a couple different points.

Except that moving a couple of points like that is exactly what you do to simulate rotating over an imaginary axis in one or two less dimensions.
::edit:: I should switch my avatar to a picture of a tesseract rotating in two dimensions at once. In fact, I'm going to go do that right now... Especially because the Far Lands are dead and buried for two versions.
::edit 2:: done. It looks freaking awesome.

Oh, a hypercube. Noice.

I can't tell if that's sarcastic, like you're saying "Dude, hypercubes are so mainstream. Get an awesome imaginary-rotating crystal formation like me" or not...
