I feel that this requires a brief introduction: Previously, all my mythos posts have been either retarded (CHICKEN MAN COUGH COUGH) or relating to the story of Miniarus. However, I have recently decided that Miniarus is old news and for 2.0 I felt I should come up with something a little better. So thus The One and The Nine was born.
The Legend of the One and the Nine:
In the beginning, there was the One. The All-Mother. She-Who-Ruled-in-Glory. She is of God, of Truth, of All, of Nothing, of the World, of the Void, of Me, and She is even of You. All the Universe was part of Her, for that was all that there was, and She was part of the Universe, for She alone existed in the Beginning.
However, it came to pass that the All-Mother became of Nine, and One. For she had created Nine Children, to be of Her, but to have Free Will as well, for She knew that they would be Hers for All Time. The Children were the Nine, the Elders, the Points of the Sun and Moon, the Nine Paths of Life. They were thus:
The First-Born were the Two: Nox and Lux, who were given the greatest power, to rule over their siblings and keep order for and within their Mother. And thus they gave their Mother joy
Next came the Four: Ventos, Ignia, Terrum, and Aquata. They were the Bones of their Mother, and they shaped the Life of the World, building from the sweat upon their divine backs a Garden of Indescribable Beauty for their Mother to dwell in. And thus they gave their Mother joy.
Last came the Three: Homina, Natura, and Bestus, who filled their Mother's Garden with creatures of all kinds, to provide her with company on the long nights of Eternity. And thus they gave their Mother joy.
And after the birth of the Nine, the One's Life was complete, and She faded into Herself, and Became One with Her Universe, Her Self. Thus it is said that each of us is Part of the One, All of the One, and None of the One.
The All-Mother remained in Her Universe, but the Nine were still Free-Willed. They wished to rule in Her Stead, for they had become Foolish, for they had forgotten that only the One may Rule the Many. Thus there emerged Two contenders for the Throne of the One which had been denied to the Nine, Nox and his sister Lux. Each brought with them the support of Three others. The parties were thus:
Nox brought Ignia and her Lakes of Fire to support him, for she had pledged herself to his cause.
Nox brought Terrum and his Shaking Earth to support him, for he had pledged himself to his cause.
And Nox brought Bestus and his Slavering Hordes to support him, for he had pledged himself to his cause
Thus did Nox contend to the Throne.
Lux brought Aquata and her Oceans of Water to support her, for she had pledged herself to her cause
Lux brought Ventos and his Howling Winds to support him, for he had pledged himself to her cause.
And Lux brought Homina and her Humans to support her, for she had pledged herself to her cause.
Thus did Lux contend to the Throne.
Only Natura and her Gardens of Life remained Neutral, for she was the Favorite of the Nine, and before Her Departure, the One had Blessed her with the Wisdom to know what was Right and Wrong, and where her path lay.
The Conflict of the Nine began in Full on the First Day of the Ninth Year after the Departure of the One. Nox had become impatient, as was his wont, and thus did he demand the Throne. When it refused him, he departed the Nine and with him brought his Allies: Ignia, Terrum and Bestus, spoken of as Nox's Three. Thus began the Conflict of the Nine, the Eighty-One Year War, the War of Eternity.
Nox fled to his World, created of him and by him, with the help of his Three. It was a World of Darkness and Fire, of Earthquakes and Monsters. From there he orchestrated the greatest war ever waged. Thus it occurred:
Bestus's Hordes began to strike the Human Cities that Homina ruled, and their Clash was Furious and Deadly to all that it encompassed.
Ignia's Seas of Fire began to strike the Oceans of Water that Aquata ruled, and their Clash wreaked destruction wherever it occured.
And Terrum's Earth began to strike the Windy Sky ruled by Ventos, and their Clash brought Lightning and Storms, and shifted Earth and Sky where it was fought.
Nox was a sly and cunning commander, however, and Lux knew nothing of his true plot. In the 27th Year of the War, Nox's forces withdrew from the Field of Battle and converged upon Lux's realm in the Sky, and there she was captured and defeated. Thus did the End approach, for none but Lux or Four of the Nine could hold her own against Nox, and Lux was now captured, and of her allies there remained only Three.
Thus were the rest of Lux's allies defeated:
Homina was defeated by the Hordes of Bestus, for they were accompanined by a Rain of Fire and a Shaking Earth, and Homina could not hold out against them.
Ventos was defeated by the Mountains of Terrum, for they breathed Fire and spat Lava, and Ventos could not hold out against them.
And Aquata was defeated by the Fires of Ignia, for they were accompanied by Fearsome Beasts of the Sky that threw balls of Flame to melt her Icy Sheilds, and Aquata could not hold out against them.
Defeated, the Allies of Lux fled to their Realm in the Sky to make a final stand against Nox in the 54th Year of the War. And Nox came with his Shadowy Minions, and followed by the Joined Army of his Allies.
'Wait,' spoke Nox to his Army. 'For I shall face them alone, and my victory shall thus be complete.'
And Nox entered the cave where hid Lux's Three, and they did battle. Eight days did the battle last until Nox had defeated his Three Opponents. And thus did he have them beaten when the Fourth Opponent entered the cave. Thus spoke Natura:
'I too stand against thee, Nox, for thou hast broken the Garden of Our Mother, and She Weeps. I know this, for I have Seen it.'
Thus Natura lent her power to Lux's Three, and they became Four. These Four battled Nox for nine days longer until they had him defeated. And thus they cast him in a Prison of Light, for Nox's crimes had laid bare his Soul, and he could not live in the unbridled Presence of his Sister.
And then they threw Nox's prison down onto the World of Humans, and encased it in shields and wards of all kinds, so that Nox could not escape. Then they routed the Armies of Nox's allies and entered unto Nox's world, and there freed Lux from her prison in the 81st and Final Year of the War.
Nox did not die, for he was an Elder, One of the Nine, but only a shadow of his Presence remained Free, and he fled the company of the others of the Nine, and fled deep below even his World, which lies beneath the World of Man. There he remains even unto this day.
Thus was the end of the War of the Nine:
The Two- Lux gave herself up to the One, and now lives in the cycle of Day, whereas her twin Nox rules the Night from beneath the Earth.
The Four- Aquata, Ignia, Terrum and Ventos had completed their Purpose and thus faded into their Mother as well, to rule over their domains as Part of the One.
The Three- Bestus, Homina and Natura remained Separate Parts of the One, for their Time of the One had not yet arrived. However, they had become wise and realized that the Time of the Nine was over, and thus combined their powers to create a new race of immortals, far more numerous, far less powerful, to oversee the Workings of the One. However, they created the Ancients with no memory of their makers, for they knew that the corruption of Nox knew no bounds, and they wished for the Ancients to remain separate from him.
Thus did the Time of the Nine end, and the Time of Mortals began.
